Thank you to the MPI Toronto 2022-2023 Board!

By: Published by MPI Toronto Chapter | Jul 28, 2023

As a cycle closes, a new one begins. Here at MPI Toronto, we are very grateful to our 2022-2023 Board of Directors for their tireless work and efforts to continue strengthening our chapter and its role in the events industry. We asked them to give us their thoughts and insights on their experiences in the past year and here is what some of them had to say:

Tammy Bradley, CMP, VEMM (2022)
Vice President Finance & Special Projects

What was your most valued experience or learning from being on the MPI Toronto Chapter Board last year?

My most valued experience was having the ability to make decisions that will impact our Chapter to make it better than is has ever been.  By being on the Board, you get a great understanding on how the Chapter works and how it impacts our members.

Do you have any advice for the incoming MPI Toronto Chapter Board?

Enjoy your time on the Board.  Always keep in mind that it is not about what you want but rather what the Toronto Chapter members as a whole want.

What is your proudest accomplishment, memory or moment from the activities/events hosted by MPI Toronto Chapter this past year?

Our ability to quickly adapt from virtual events to in-person events.  It was hard to plan our events and budget when we didn’t know which way the world was going.  The year started off slow with small in-person numbers and now, more members are making their way to our in-person events, which helps us reconnect with one another in a more meaningful way.

Dwayne Rutherford, DES
Vice President, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion & Membership

What was your most valued experience or learning from being on the MPI Toronto Chapter Board last year?

Joining the MPI Toronto Chapter Board has been a great experience for me. I am now starting my second term and I am super impressed with the leadership team of the upcoming fiscal. The most valuable experience I had is being able to collaborate with other industry professionals who are aligned in listening to our members and finding new ways to meet their needs.

Do you have any advice for the incoming MPI Toronto Chapter Board?

My advice would be, to be opinionated and know that your opinion is welcomed. At times new members feel as though they may not fit in however, I ask all members to express their thoughts and allow others to grow from your knowledge and experience. Also, don't be intimidated to reach out to any board member to get clarity or direction if you are not sure how to proceed on something you are working on.

What is your proudest accomplishment, memory or moment from the activities/events hosted by MPI Toronto Chapter this past year?

I am proud that the team took a chance and hosted the holiday event in a unique space with a completely new format. These bold decisions don't always go over well however we need to continue to challenge the status quo to push our industry forward. I am also extremely proud of the work the DEI committee in its inaugural year is doing. This work is not easy, but the team is steadfast in bringing equality to all of our members.
