Turning DEI into Action: Practical Strategies for Inclusive Events

A 90‑minute virtual workshop for event professionals who want to design events where everyone truly belongs. Participants will leave with a practical Inclusive Event Checklist and concrete tools to embed DEI into every stage of event planning.

Participants will:
  • Understand the human and business value of DEI in events, including psychological safety and engagement.
  • Identify common barriers and hesitations (budget, speaker pipelines, accessibility misconceptions).
  • Gain a practical Inclusive Event Checklist  structured around equitable engagement, accessible experiences, and measurable outcomes.
  • Build confidence to implement change through polls, interactive exercises, and a scenario‑based activity.

  • Welcome and icebreaker
  • Session 1: The value of DEI investments in events
  • Session 2: Addressing hesitations and barriers
  • Session 3: Defining progress and implementation
    • Walkthrough of the Inclusive Event Checklist
  • Practical scenario exercise
  • Q&A and next steps

 

Facilitators

  • Najeeb Khan – Head of Global Training, Teamland

Leadership development expert, author, and founder of Teamland with a background in organizational psychology and team dynamics. Active member of MPI Toronto and part of a CAMSC‑certified organization, focused on turning DEI into actionable strategies that enhance attendee engagement and belonging.

  • Velvet Wells (they/them) – DEI Facilitator and Creator‑Producer

Award‑winning queer, Black facilitator and creator‑producer based in Ottawa. Designs and delivers DEI and anti‑racism workshops for organizations and arts communities, including sessions on DEI in corporate spaces and an interactive bystander intervention workshop titled Practice Dismantling Racism.
