"“We want to hear directly from you about your needs so that we can continue to be an association that delivers and supports the needs of its members."
Welcome MPI D/FW! I’m so honored to support you in the creation of education and relationship building for the 2022-2023 term.
It has been a rough two years for our industry. We went from flying high at 100% down to the basement at 0% and now we are working at 200% of our capacity with half the staff and support. What a whirlwind! Not only are we working at capacities that we never have before, but we are doing it in a completely different way.
We have had to learn and adapt to a changing world. First, and most obviously, doing A LOT more, with A LOT less. Virtual events. Working from home. Dealing with constant supply chain issues, rising food costs, rising labor costs, rising airfare, twice the quantity of events with a quarter of the planning time. Working to the absolute best of our abilities – for a lot of us has been a struggle, which is disheartening. We’ve had to learn a lot of new skills to continue making our businesses successful.
We know how we are responding to this incredible change in our personal and professional lives. So the question now is, how will your MPI D/FW chapter support the changing needs of our members?
I am going to relate the answer with a metaphor using the story of “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein. If you are unfamiliar with it here is a synopsis:
There is a tree that loved a boy. And when the boy was young he enjoyed the tree’s shade: swinging from his branches, climbing up its trunk and eating its apples. As the boy grew older and his life changed, he needed different things from the tree – apples to sell for money, branches to build a house, the trunk to build a boat, and the stump to simply sit and rest.
This year, I want YOU to think of MPI D/FW as your tree. As you Evolve & Grow throughout your personal life, your professional career, and your experience within MPI, you will need different things from the chapter – apples, leaves, or maybe just a nice stump to rest.
As a board we have planned a year that anticipates the needs of our members going through the changes in the industry – mentor program, career cafes, more networking opportunities, education luncheons and even a full education day. However, we really want to hear directly from you about your needs so that we can continue to be an association that delivers and supports the needs of its members.
