When I first started volunteering with the MPI Minnesota Chapter, it was with a simple goal in mind: to meet others and connect on a deeper level. As an introvert, walking into a room full of unfamiliar faces wasn’t easy. Attending events where I didn’t know anyone often left me feeling overwhelmed and disconnected.
Joining a committee changed everything.
Volunteering gave me the structure I needed to build real, meaningful relationships with fellow members. It turned MPI from a professional network into a true community—one where I feel supported, seen, and engaged.
One of the things I’ve appreciated most is the flexibility. Some months, I’m able to take on more responsibility. Other times, when work and life are busier, I lean on the team. There’s never pressure—just encouragement and understanding. That balance has made it easy to stay involved consistently, even when things get hectic.
Being part of a committee has also pushed me in the best ways. I’ve had the chance to explore areas I don’t typically touch in my day-to-day role, giving me space to grow both personally and professionally. It’s been an unexpected and welcome boost to my confidence and career.
The more I’ve leaned in, the more connected and committed I’ve become. MPI has become more than a membership—it’s become a meaningful part of my journey.
If you’re on the fence about volunteering, I encourage you to take the leap. You never know what it might open up for you.
