To ensure that the Board has the vision and the ability to connect the meeting and event community (including our membership) to learn, innovate, collaborate and advocate, it is required that the board collectively possess the following traits:

Nominations closed on November 30, 2020.
Beginning in September, the nominations committee actively recruits nominations for the upcoming Board of Directors. Descriptions of each board position can be accessed here.
Eligibility/Qualifications:
• To be eligible for consideration, individuals must be a member of the Minnesota chapter for at least one year
• Be a member in good standing. Be willing to fulfill the obligations of office, in the capacity indicated
• Have a history of involvement, accomplishment, and dependable service to MPI or MPI MN
• Work towards the chapter’s strategic initiatives
• Exemplify the core values
• Be willing to contribute time, energy, and creativity to the chapter with the consent of your employer
• Foster an environment where everyone can feel welcomed, supported, and celebrated
Nomination Process:
Upon receipt of a nomination, the chapter staff will verify the nominee's membership is in good standing. Upon verification, the nominee is invited to complete the Board candidate form.
The nominations committee is led by the Immediate Past President and a delegation of chapter members.
By February 1, 2020, the nominations committee will present the upcoming board slate to the general membership for review. Members have 30 days to submit opposition to any member of the slate to the chair of the nominations committee.
Onboarding:
Starting in March, the incoming board begins shadowing the current board as part of the onboarding process. The Leadership Development team facilitates the onboarding process.
The new board will be sworn in at the Year-End Celebration, held in May; however, their term officially runs from July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022.
Commitment:
If elected, you are required to volunteer 15-30 hours per month doing the following:
* Attend the 12 monthly Board meetings and 10 Chapter meetings and events
* Attend the Annual Board Retreat (May 13-14, 2021)
* Attend the Mid-Year Board Retreat (2 days in December or January)
* Attend Get on Board Training (April and July)
* Lead and manage the committees and volunteers in your area.
Although not required, participation in MPI's World Education Congress (in June) is strongly encouraged. The incoming President and Vice Presidents of Education, Marketing & Communications, and Membership may attend WEC and/or the Chapter Business Summit with most travel expenses paid. The Chapter Business Summit is held the day prior and includes some required sessions during WEC.
