Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is responsible for spreading the excitement of our Minnesota Chapter! Connecting new and prospective members with Chapter resources, networking opportunities, and other avenues for engagement to provide the ability to maximize your investment of time and talent.

Member retention, recruitment, and leadership development are some of the most important elements to a successful organization. The Minnesota Chapter of MPI believes in making sure new and existing members feel welcome and have immediate opportunities to learn and grow as a part of the meeting planning/hospitality industry.

This committee offers varying levels of time commitment to fit your schedule as detailed below, and is charged with the responsibility of growing our chapter, and retaining members through phone, in-person, and email connections.

Vice President of Membership

This position provides oversight to the Membership Committee. This involves developing new member welcome outreach initiatives, promoting upcoming events, and encouraging involvement that drives engagement and overall value to members ultimately creasing membership and volunteer numbers for our chapter.  

Director of Membership

This position assists the Vice President and oversees the Retention Program, New Member Ambassador Program, Member Up Close, Membership 101, Member Mingles, EMPI Awards Nominations and Chapter Assessment Survey. This position also assists the Vice President in creating and executing a strategic plan to meet/exceed the annual membership retention goals as set by the MN MPI Board and MPI Global.

Communications Liaison: Liaison between Membership and the Marketing & Communications committees. Writes and collects quarterly articles for Membership section of the newsletter, and assists with membership-related social media posts. 1-2 hours per month.  

Membership 101 Volunteer: Plans and executes (2) Membership 101 events per year including the promotion of the event.  Typically occur in the fall and spring that are conjunction with a Mingle. 1-2 hours per month.  

Mingles Volunteer: Plans and executes 2 Member Mingles per year including the promotion of the event. Typically occur fall, spring and summer. These can be done jointly with Membership 101 or a monthly meeting. It can also be done with other organizations. 1-2 hours per month.  

New Member Ambassador Volunteer: Oversees the New Member Ambassador Program to ensure participants are engaged. Recruit ambassadors and assign them to the new member. Complete event submission forms for the Ambassador Program events. 1-2 hours per month.  Additional hours needed in the beginning of the year.

Excellence in MPI Volunteer: Work with our Association Management Company (Mattison)  to confirm date to open annual EMPI Award Nominations on MPI MN Chapter website. Promote and seek EMPI Nominations. Recruit and select an Excellence in MPI Award judging individual or committee. Tally EMPI Award nominations and provide recipients' names to the MarCom Liaison for social media promotion. Orders the physical awards and confirms delivery by the Year-End Celebration. The majority of work is done January - May. Average 1-2 hours per month with additional hours in April and May during peak EMPI activity period.

Monthly (Grace) Calls Volunteer: Receives a monthly report of grace/lapsed members and calls to ask about re-joining. Results are reported to the Membership Committee. 1 hour per month.  

Social Media Prospecting Volunteer: Receives a monthly report of prospective members, calls or emails them and creates a follow-up list. Research followers of MPI's LinkedIn page tp recruit followers who are non-members. Results are reported to the membership committee. 1-2 hours per month.  

College Visit Volunteer: Works with area colleges/universities/higher education institutions to schedule (2) visits to classes/organizations throughout the year to promote MPI. Most work typically occurs in Sept/Oct and Jan/Feb.  1-2 hours per month.

Volunteer Engagement: Oversees volunteer leads that come through MPI MN Chapters' website and from monthly events. Follows up with members interested in volunteering on various committees. 2-3 hours/month.

Volunteer of the Quarter: Collect nominations from the Board of Directors each month, format into a voting form and send to VP Leadership one-week prior to each Board of Directors meeting. 30 min/month.
