Why did you join MPI?
The meetings and events industry is comprised of an incredible collaborative network of people with such fascinating backgrounds and various duties as planners. MPI is such an amazing platform for that network to connect and has resources of all kinds for everyone in the industry to grow themselves and their careers.

How long have you been in the meetings/hospitality industry?
  7 years.

How did you decide to get involved in this business?  What influenced you?
I am an activator. I have always had a passion for turning concepts into reality, so this industry was a no-brainer for me. The variety and creativity are what drew me to the events industry as a whole

What’s the most valuable advice you’ve received about working with meetings?
Think like an anthropologist when planning in different areas (neighborhoods, cities, countries, etc.). Every event/meeting is unique - who the attendees are, what the purpose is, what will be happening in and out of the meeting room. It is important to first and foremost think about the venue/destination and the message it automatically sends about your event in addition to fulfilling your checklist of needs. It is key to think about everything attendees will experience while there, whether it’s a week or just an hour over lunch, and ask yourself “does this destination/venue make sense?”

What is one piece of advice about meeting planning you would share?
Find people and venues you trust, then grow your network. Your network in this industry is your key to success and that starts with building a trustworthy base. When you have a positive experience with a specific team or venue, keep them in your life and understand why they are a vital part of your network.

What is one thing about this industry that you love?
The people. This industry would be nothing without people. While we all deal with logistics every day, our collective goal is to make people happy. Right now it is my job to help planners deliver on their event goals and expectations and I find real joy in developing those relationships.

What is one thing about the industry would you like to see changed?
As a collective industry, it is vital for all of us (meeting planners, vendors, sourcing managers, venue sales, you name it) to remember that we are all on the same team with the same goal – successful events. We all need to remember that every position plays an important role and for each of us to be successful, we must all be successful.

What do you do outside of work?
When I’m not working you can find me traveling for pleasure, enjoying the outdoors, eating pasta, racing in triathlons, and cuddling with my rescue dogs Layla and Louie!
