MPI50: Jonathan Howe

By Michael Pinchera | Oct 5, 2022

Jonathan HoweLongtime general counsel for MPI, Jonathan Howe—recognized as one of MPI’s “Legacy Contributors”—reflects on his history with the association.

In 1974, I became involved with MPI as a result of a request to provide legal services to this new association with about 80 members that was finding itself confronted with tax issues. From that time until 2021, I had the pleasure of serving as General Counsel for MPI and then took on an Emeritus status.

The people I have met and worked with over the years affiliated with MPI have been not only wonderful clients but are also dear friends.

The strength of MPI always has resided in the dedication of its membership and to truly make it a life-long career for highly respected professionals.

MPI has gone through many ups and downs but it has always had the resilience as has been demonstrated during the last two+ years in dealing with the COVID pandemic.

It has been my good fortune to be able to share and advance the understanding of the law and its impact upon the industry and the profession. Having been honored by many industry organizations, including being named to the Events Industry Council Hall of Leaders, receiving the President’s Award from the Religious Conference Management Association as well as the HSMAI Pacesetters Award, being named fellow of the American Society Association Executives, having received the MPI Industry and RISE Awards and others have all been a humbling experience.
